 The name Appleton has been synonymous with motorcycles in the Clarksville area since 1952. In 1968 Buddy & Bret Appleton opened Clarksville Cycle Center. The business started out on Madison Street, moved to College Street, and finally settled in an old tractor building on Kraft Street in 1971. During those days, we sold Husqvarna & Yamaha motrocycles. In 1981, Glen Appleton, Buddy's brother, who was the Harley Dealer at the time passed away. In 1982 Buddy was approved by Harley-Davidson to be a dealer and purchased the existing Harley® motorcyles and merchandise from Glen's estate.
After getting out of the Yamaha business in 1986, Buddy changed the name of our business to Appleton Harley-Davidson because he was totally committed to only carry the Harley-Davidson® brand motorcycles. The Buell® brand was added in 1998.
After the tornado of 1999 destroyed the building on Kraft Street, we moved to a temporary building on 41A Bypass. After seeing that being closer to the interstate created more business, we started looking for property to build our store on. In March of 2000, we moved to our existing location at 2501 Hwy 41A bypass. The new location is 20,000 square feet, which is almost double the size of the building on Kraft Street. We have already made serveral minor changes to the building, because of the continual growth of our business.
We are not only business owners, we are motorcycle enthusiasts. Motorcycles are a big part of our lifestyle. From our humble beginnings of three employees on Madison Street to our existing 23, we plan on Appleton Harley-Davidson to be around for many years and to be handed down from generation to generation. |  |
